The 6th Chakra by Paul Rest
I see the 6th chakra as a triangular flow between the Pineal
and Pituitary glands and energy center referred to as “The Third
Eye.” The glands release complex chemicals into the brain (and
body). The effect that this has is only beginning to be understood
by science. It is known that these Glands help regulate (harmonize)
the bodies various systems. I believe these chemicals also work
on both the physical and spiritual matrixes of our body.
This resulting harmonization in the chakra is the
door into higher awareness and insights. Intuition and self-realization
flow from the energy that is created. To take one example of how
this chakra can function, let us consider food: taste, smell,
sight and hearing are all highly aroused when this chakra is allowed
to express itself. Therefore, chocolate becomes more than something
that tastes good; it becomes an adventure that includes smell,
touch, sight and even sound (that wonderful moment when the chocolate
bar is broken, a sound which is like no other). I think great
chefs and all those who create magic with food, especially healing
energy, are using this chakra to create a symphony of flavors,
textures and colors that nurture the body as well as the soul.
When I look at photographs of Alice Waters, I see someone in whom
this chakra is highly developed. (I also experienced this eating
at her restaurant in Berkeley.)
We can consciously work with this chakra by taking
time in the doingness of our lives to slow down for a moment.
The energy stream from the 6 th chakra can then have time to unfold
and titillate us with what we haven't been aware of before. A
carrot or a stalk of celery can become a work of art when seen
through our Third Eye. The Zen priest and author Ed Brown has
written about his insights into food where he equates nutrition
with our having this healthy relationship with food and the energy
it can bring into our lives.
Next time you eat a chocolate bar I suggest you see
if you can open your Third Eye to the experience. Slow down and
let your whole being become engaged in what you are doing. I think
both you and chocolate will enjoy these moments together.
