Moving Beyond Depression by Dale Jacobson D.C.

The medical profession has determined that one in five people in the United States has a mental disorder such as depression or "anxiety disorder" that "can" be treated with an anti-depressant type drug. What is the simple cause of this depression? I will tell you immediately: It is the inability to express and receive love. That’s it in a nutshell. Let’s see if we can get to the root of this "perceived" lack of love.

It begins with general fatigue, for you can only be depressed if you are mentally tired. The average person needs 8 hours of sleep every night. Of these only 2 are required to rest the physical body, the rest is for the mind. This is because the "mental system" (nervous system), uses up more energy, vitamins, minerals, and trace elements than the general musculo-skeletal system.

Your mind becomes tired when you encounter and "go past" a concept, thought, or idea that you do not understand. If you get a letter from the I.R.S. stating that they are coming to "help you," your mind may suddenly get tired. Your level of uncertainty regarding the future makes you feel exhausted. Here is the deal: You are tired in direct proportion to the concepts and issues that you do not understand and have gone past. Watch a typical first mother taking care of her new baby. She worries about all kinds of things that she cannot yet understand. Observe the same mother as she takes care of her second baby. You will notice that she reacts to fewer and fewer things as she gains understanding and experience. She starts to relax and have more fun.

So, here’s my two cents worth to help move beyond depression: Eat real, whole foods—organic, unprocessed, non-GMO, non-hormoned, non-pesticided food. Whole milk, whole meats, whole grains, whole (not hydrogenated) fats etc. Eat fresh, organic fruits and vegetables. Eat whole organic yogurt. Avoid fake sugars, refined soy products, and trans fats. Do yoga stretching, prayer and meditation. Find out what you don’t understand about key relationships. Look deeper into any unresolved conflict and suppressed anger in these key relationships and work on them. Seek the highest values for yourself in your life, then demand the deep rest that you need to achieve those values. Let go of your immaturity and narrow mindedness and learn forgiveness and compassion for everyone. Then, your ability to become depressed actually becomes an inability. Now, go find the people who practice kindness, who love you, and ask them for their counsel. With their soft patient voices they will explain the golden rule to you again, and again, and again and again and…
